a.k.a. Maia

Maia grew up in the upper classes of dragon society, with strict parents and high expectations. She was never good at what they wanted her to be good at, and because of that, she was never their main focus - but they still found plenty of time to pop in and tell Maia everything she was doing wrong. Maia was ultimately raised mostly by one of her sisters, who was fortunately very kind and understanding.

While she's knowledgable about the standards of upper class dragons, she never managed to get things quite right, and ultimately found more comfort in visual art and reading. She spent much of her time growing up in her cave with a good book or a canvas and paints, and not much of it out in the real world - especially not outside of dragon society.

She always wanted to be smaller. Reading about other societies felt magical, felt like maybe she could fit in somewhere where the rules weren't so strict, and despite the fact that most dragons see being large as desireable, she wanted nothing more than to be able to walk and live alongside non-dragons.

Then, when she was 47, the ancient, semi-sentient magical gemstone that selects the ruler of the dragons chose her. She managed to keep herself calm for two days. Then the inauguration ceremony came. While standing in front of a crowd of aristocrats and respected figures, both dragons and non-dragons alike, she panicked. Completely by accident, in the rush of anxiety, she used the powers within the gemstone to make herself tiny.

She only barely managed to escape, stumbling across the heiress of Hell and begging for her to help her escape. The heiress - Jinx - agreed, and after hiding in Jinx's pockets, was accidentally taken to Hell. Maia and Jinx stayed in Hell for nearly a week, while Jinx found some excuse for her to leave and get Maia out. Eventually, information about Jinx's missing sister was discovered, and Jinx jumped at the opportunity to find her sister as well as get Maia out of Hell.

Now, Maia and Jinx are traveling together, attempting to stay on the down low while they both try to navigate having a real friend for the first time in their life. Maia struggles with controlling the powers within the gem as well as navigating a world almost completely foreign to her, attempting to build up some semblence of self esteem after her childhood, and Jinx struggles with realizing that she's more than just what her parents want from her - that she can want things to change, and live her own life.
